BVI Golf - Stay on Tortola

There are no golf courses on the island of Tortola, but that doesn't mean golf fanatics should cross Tortola off their list of dream destinations. Concentrated within a large grouping of Caribbean islands, Tortola is only a short distance from some fabulous golf courses; a quick island-hopper or ferry ride makes a morning or afternoon on the fairways easy.

The most convenient location to golf while staying on Tortola is St. Thomas, whose spectacular Mahogany Run Golf Course could compete with any in the Caribbean. This 18-hole championship course was recently renovated to add to its already superb facilities, which include a large outdoor clubhouse, restaurant, and pro shop. Mahogany Run lies right on the water, and offers breathtaking views of Tortola and the rest of the BVI. St. Thomas can be reached from Tortola by ferry or by flying.

Puerto Rico is a hotbed of golf and, luckily, only a short island-hopper flight away from Tortola. On the east coast (facing Tortola and the BVI) is Bahia Beach Plantation, an 18-hole public course built on the lands of an old coconut plantation. Guests of Tortola may also want to play at Dorado Del Mar, the challenging Chi Chi Rodriguez signature course, or the Arthur-hills designed links at El Conquistador Country Club.
